Fitzgerald was a standout defender for the Men's Soccer program from 1997-2000. The Lakers posted a 54-19-4 record during Fitzgerald's four seasons.
He was named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year three times and was an All-GLIAC selection all four seasons. Fitzgerald was also a three-time NSCAA All-Region member and was an NSCAA First Team All-American in 1998.
He helped Mercyhurst lead the GLIAC in scoring defense as a senior and also scored a career-high 16 points from his defensive position in his final season.
He became the second Men's Soccer player inducted into the Mercyhurst Athletic Hall of Fame. Former Laker great Glenn Francis was enshrined in 2009.
