Mariano Fava, a 2007 graduate, enjoyed a stellar career with the Mercyhurst men's tennis team, culminating in his selection as the 2007 Mercyhurst Senior Male Athlete of the Year. Known for his dominant play at the top of the lineup, Fava was a three-time GLIAC First Team All-Conference selection and twice named the GLIAC Player of the Year. In 2007, he compiled an impressive 17-6 record at No. 1 singles, and alongside his doubles partner, Lee Michael Marnik, posted a near-flawless 23-1 doubles record. The duo capped off their season by winning their last 19 matches, going undefeated in GLIAC doubles play. Fava's excellence extended off the court as well, earning him recognition on the GLIAC All-Academic Team. His contributions to the Mercyhurst tennis program set a standard of excellence for future Lakers.
