Linebacker Gibbon (Leechburg, Pa./Kiski Area) played from 1982 to 1985 and was an integral part of putting the infant program on the map. The Lakers went a combined 25-11-1 in Don's four years and 16-3 in his final two seasons. During that time, Mercyhurst won road games against such established programs as Gettysburg in 1982; John Carroll in 1983; Widener, Frostburg State, Duquesne, and Alfred in 1984; and Dayton in 1985. Gibbon made 362 tackles in his career, a record that lasted 15 years. He made 125 tackles in a single season, second all-time. Other Mercyhurst accolades include: Division III First Team Football News Digest All-American, Pittsburgh Press First Team All-Region, Little All-American Honorable Mention -- all in 1985; and Pittsburgh Press Regional team in 1984. He graduated in 1986 with a 3.38 QPA in Biology and completed his medical degree at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. Don works at the Indiana (Pa) Regional Medical Center, specializing in emergency and occupational medicine. Don and his wife, Debbie, have three children.
