Scarsella was part of the first team in the Laker's history in 1981, playing until 84. David earned major awards over the course of hit time at Mercyhurst with him being named to an All-District First Team and an All-American Third Team. Scarsella proved to be one of the top tacklers in the team's history with 248 for his career to place him in the top 25 all time. 26 of his tackles were for a loss and 13 for a sack, ranking him in the top 20 in Mercyhurst history.
