McAvinew finished his four-year career with a 101-37 record, posting the fifth-best winning percentage in school history (73.2%). His 101 victories rank fifth all time. McAvinew finished as the National Runner-Up in 2005 and was a two-time All-American, also finishing sixth at nationals in 2003. He was a four-time national qualifier and won Mercyhurst's Senior Male Athlete of the Year award in 2005. He ranks second all-time with 305 takedowns, sixth in reversals with 35, fifth in pins with 24, and is tied for fifth with 144 escapes.
