Maher was a member of four GLAC Championships teams over his time at Mercyhurst, lifting the trophy in 1997, 1998, 2000, and 2001. Thrice over that span did the Lakers make it to the NCAA Tournament with the Lakers making an appearance in 1998, 2000, and 2001. Maher proved to be an offensive force unto himself as he set the single-season record for goals with 24 while having the most points in a season as well with 63, both coming in 2001. His achievement did not end there as he is also tops in career goals with 51.
For his efforts, Maher was named a two-time GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year (2000, 2001) while making four All-GLIAC teams, one NCSAA All-Great Lakes Regional team, and one NSCAA All-American team
