Hanover, NH – On Sunday, April 17th, the lightweight men traveled to meet Dartmouth College on the Connecticut River for a series of dual races. With a light tail current and sunny skies, it was a great day for three extraordinarily close races.
The first event down the course was the varsity four in which Mercyhurst crossed the finish line first with a time of 6:44.1 with Dartmouth A following just one second behind (6:45.1) and Dartmouth B finishing in third with a time of 6:59.8.
The second varsity eight followed suit with another close race; Mercyhurst edged out Dartmouth with a time of 5:55.6, less than one second ahead of Dartmouth with 5:56.4.
The day of racing ended with the first varsity eights in which Dartmouth finished first with a time of 5:50.8 followed closely by Mercyhurst with their 5:58.8.
"The men did a tremendous job on the water this morning," said interim head coach Jamie Francis. "This was some of the most exciting racing I've seen. The guys traded the lead with Dartmouth all the way down the course and thankfully we were able to push ahead just before the line on two of our races. Thanks goes out to Dartmouth coach Sean Healey for hosting us today."
