WASHINGTON, Pa.- The Mercyhurst men's water polo team beat Monmouth, 16-8, at Washington and Jefferson Sunday morning.
Shaquille Mitchell led the Lakers with three goals and an assist in the victory.
Monmouth jumped out to a 3-1 lead after a quarter, but the Lakers responded with an explosion in the second period, scoring eight goals. Mercyhurst went into the half ahead, 9-4. It added six more goals in the third frame, ending the game as a contest in the process.
Mitchell put up a hat trick and a helper.
Alex Strong posted two goals and an assist, while
Christian Dudley,
Jack Howe, and
Samuel Lopez each scored twice.
Kevin Doyle,
Gene Bilbao, and
Andrew Too-A-Foo all saw time in goal, combining for 13 saves.
Mercyhurst plays at Penn State Behrend on Friday, September 26, at 7 p.m.
