#9 Field Hockey Pushes #8 East Stroudsburg in 2-1 PSAC Quarterfinal Defeat

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa.- The #9 Mercyhurst field hockey team fell, 2-1, at #8 East Stroudsburg in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament Quarterfinal Tuesday afternoon. The Lakers finished the 2014 season with a 9-10 record and their first postseason appearance since 2009.

Trailing 2-0 late in the match, the Lakers refused to quit. After a pair of shots were stopped by ESU goalie Danielle Ard, Blair Pembleton got Mercyhurst on the board at the 66:15 mark, cutting the deficit in half. It was the senior's 14th goal of the season. Marissa Faso assisted on the score. Mercyhurst pressured the Warrior defense as time wound down, shooting five times, but Ard came up with two stops in the last minute to preserve the ESU win.

Jess Wess recorded 13 saves in net. East Stroudsburg held a 20-13 advantage in shots.

Mercyhurst went 9-10 this year, posting its second straight season with nine victories. It also set the school record for goals, scoring 48 times. Pembleton's 14 goals are the most by a Laker since Emily Warren tallied 15 in the 2008 campaign.
