Reid, Scheetz Earn 2013 USILA Scholar All-American Honors

PERRY, N.Y.- Brian Scheetz and Zac Reid of the #1 Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team have been named to the 2013 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Scholar All-America Team. Both student-athletes were recognized as USILA All-Americans earlier this week.

Scheetz and Reid are two of just six Division II players honored this year. Ninety-two student-athletes from all three NCAA divisions appear on the squad.

Scheetz, one of the top players in program history, leads the Lakers with 72 points this season. He dished out six assists, tying a career high, in an 18-17 overtime win against #2 Limestone in the NCAA Tournament Semifinals May 18. The Canandaigua, New York, native has a 3.4 GPA in intelligence studies. He was named USILA Second Team All-American Monday.

Reid is the team's top scorer among the midfield group with 29 goals and 14 assists. The St. Catharines, Ontario, native recorded a career-high seven goals against Limestone, tying an NCAA Tournament Semifinal record. He earned USILA Honorable Mention All-American recognition earlier this week. The senior is a 3.5 student majoring in sport business.

In 1989 the USILA Scholar All-America Program was established to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities. The USILA Selection Committee selects an overall team representing Division I, II and III. The Scholar All-Americas are recognized at the annual Lacrosse All-America Banquet.

Last season, Gregory Bensman earned a spot on the USILA Scholar All-America Team. This marks the seventh different year with a Laker on the squad and Coach Chris Ryan has now landed 10 student-athletes on the list since 2001.
