Leao Becomes First Men's Hoops All-America in School History

KANSAS CITY, Mo.- Luis Leao of the Mercyhurst men's basketball team has been selected to the 2012-13 National Association of Basketball Coaches All-America Team. Leao is the first Laker in program history to earn the honor.
 
The Brusque, Brazil, native is one of 16 players to be named to the team. He is the only Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) player on the squad. Alex Falk of West Liberty is the only other player from an Atlantic Region school on the All-America Team. The team is voted on by NABC member coaches.
 
After wrapping up an outstanding senior season, Leao has raked in a number of distinctions. In 2012-13, the 6-5 forward was the PSAC Western Division Athlete of the Year, PSAC West First Team, a Capital One Academic All-America First Team member, NABC All-Atlantic District First Team, and Daktronics All-Region Second Team.
 
Leao averaged 18.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per game as a senior. He set a school record with 166 made free throws, connecting on 81.4 percent from the foul line. Leao scored in double figures in 28 of 29 games and shot 47.8 percent from the field.
 
In his three-year career, Leao scored 1,221 points, the ninth-most in program annals. His 17.4 points per game are the fourth-most in school history. A biology major, Leao has a 3.87 grade point average at Mercyhurst.
