ERIE, Pa. – The 10^th ranked Mercyhurst College wrestling team heads back to the mat today, Jan.26 to compete against cross-town rival Gannon University.  The Lakers will host the Golden Knights at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center at 7 p.m.

The Lakers are ranked third in the region and have a 9-4 record with all four losses coming to nationally ranked opponents.  Gannon is 7-1 this season and is currently on a five match win-streak.  The Golden Knights are ranked sixth in the region moving up one spot since the last poll on Jan.9.  Gannon is also receiving votes in the national poll.

The Golden Knights feature five wrestlers that rank in the region including the No.1 grappler at the 149lb class in Ethan Swope.  Swope is 9-3 overall and 7-0 in duals this season while ranking fifth in the nation.  Zak Zelcs ranks third in the region at the 184lb class as he has gone 6-1 in duals while holding a 12-7 overall record.

Matthew Turek (125lbs), Adam Weinell (133lbs), and Bret Terry (174lbs) round out the ranked Golden Knights as they all rank sixth in their respective classes.

The Lakers are 5-6 all-time against the Golden Knights losing their last matchup one year ago at the Hammer Mill, 27-15.
