LAKE ERIE, Ohio – The Mercyhurst College wrestling team earned a perfect 3-0 record at the Lake Erie Quad meet. The Lakers beat host Lake Erie 40-6, Tiffin 34-6, and Ohio Valley 37-3. Freshman
Michael Pollard entered the programs record book after he earned his 15
th pin of the season giving him the single season falls record.
Pollard (20-8) set the new single season fall record after he recorded his 15th fall of the season over Lake Erie's Bobby Hager. The pin only took the Freshman 1:47 to complete and gives him a twenty win season.
Freshman Ryan Bohince (125lb), Nick Hannan (141lb), Shane Foster (157lb) and redshirt sophomore Michael Baxter (133lb) all were faultless on the day recording three wins. Bohince and Foster are now just one win shy of reaching twenty wins this season as they hold a 19-11 and 19-10 record respectively. Hannan is 12-9 on the season and Baxter has reached double digit wins this season and now has an 10-7 overall record this season.
There were four other Lakers that picked up two wins on the day. They include Eric Lundgren (174lb), Eric Fulmer (184lb), Pollard (197lb), and Fred Hale (285lb). Lundgren picked up his second fall win of the year when he pinned Walid Bogero during the second minute of action. Fulmer, a junior, wrestled to two major decision wins in his only two matches of the day giving him a 12-3 overall record. Hale's two wins came from pins against his opponents. Hale now is 9-3 on the season.
The Lakers now hold a 12-8 record heading into back-to-back home matches against West Liberty University and the University of Findlay. Findlay is ranked 15 in the latest NCAA national rankings. The Hurst' will face off against West Liberty on Feb.11 at 7 p.m. and will pick up action again taking on Findlay at 2 p.m. on Feb.12.
