Scheetz and Nash Earn ECC Honors

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – Two players from the third-ranked Mercyhurst College men's lacrosse earned conference honors Monday evening, as freshman Brian Scheetz was named East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week and junior Zach Nash was named ECC Goalkeeper of the Week.

Scheetz earned his second-straight rookie of the week honor after leading the Lakers with three goals and two assists in an 11-8 win over No. 7 Dowling. He had a hand in five-straight Mercyhurst goals that helped the Lakers rally back from a 4-3 deficit to tie the game, 6-6.

Scheetz currently leads the Lakers with 10 goals and 17 points.

Nash was named goalkeeper of the week for the first time in his career. He made 16 saves – 10 of which came during the first half - and held the Golden Lions to five even-strength goals. With the win, he moved his record to 3-0 on the season.

Mercyhurst opens the home portion of its 2010 schedule this weekend with a 1 p.m. contest against Molloy on Saturday, March 13 at Tullio Field.
