DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Mercyhurst College wrestling team split a pair of matches Saturday, defeating Shippensburg 24-10 before falling to fifth-ranked Division III foe Delaware Valley, 31-10.
The Lakers (5-11) were led by
Andy Lamancusa and
Josh Shields as both went undefeated on the day. Shippensburg falls to 6-5 on the year while the Aggies move to 11-2.
With his two victories, Lamancusa has tied Zack Schafer for the most wins in program history, moving to 109-42 in his career.
Meanwhile, Shields stretches his unbeaten streak to 12 matches and moves to 28-3 this season.
Also picking up wins were Robert Blotzer with a 5-2 decision over Ship's Devan Jones at 149 lbs. and
Chris Nocchi's fall over the Red Raiders Keith Dahlheimer (4:55) at 197 lbs. Heavyweight
Fred Hale closed out the match with a 14-2 major decision against Tyler Zittle.
In the Delaware Valley match, Lamancusa stopped the Aggies from winning the first five matches with his 16-4 major decision over Matt Lindsay and Shields followed with a 5-0 decision against Justin Barowski.
Adding the Lakers final victory was
Eric Lundgren at 184 lbs. with his 6-2 decision against Jake Phillips.
The Lakers are next in action at Pitt-Johnstown on Friday, Feb. 12 at7 p.m.
