JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Five Mercyhurst College wrestlers, led by Andy Lamancusa and Josh Shields in the championship brackets, advanced to the second day of competition at the NCAA Super Region I Championships, hosted by Pitt-Johnstown. 

Lamancusa and Shields, both seeded No. 1 at their respective weights, won their first two matches and will begin Saturday's action in the semifinals. 

The Lakers are tied for eighth-place in the team standings at 27 points. Newberry College leads the tournament with 65.5 points as eight grapplers remain in the championship bracket. Host Pitt-Johnstown follows close in second-place at 49.5 while Gannon sits third at 49 points with four wrestlers in each of the championship and consolation brackets. 

Lamancusa seeks his fourth-straight title at 157 lbs. while Shields, the defending national champion, will try and defend his title from a year ago. 

At 184 lbs. Eric Lundgren won his first match in the consolation bracket and Chris Nocchi remains alive in the consolation bracket at 197 lbs. while Fred Hale also remains alive at heavyweight. 

The top four wrestlers in each weight class advance to the NCAA II National Championships March 12-13 at Nebraska-Omaha. The tournament will wrestle a true-fourth match if necessary.
