ERIE, Pa. -- Mercyhurst College senior Andy Lamancusa has been tabbed the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week, for the period ending Jan. 17.
The nation’s top-ranked wrestler in Division II, the 157-pounder went 4-0 on the week, defeating Findlay’s Michael Lybarger, who is ranked No. 6 nationally, by a 15-5 major decision before going 3-0 en route to the individual title at the Mount Union Purple Raider Open.
In the process, Lamancusa recorded his 100th career victory at Mercyhurst in the semifinals, defeating West Liberty State’s Shane Melko also by major decision, 12-2.
The two-time All-American sits fourth on the school’s career wins list and needs just nine victories to become the Lakers all-time wins leaders.
All told, Lamancusa now owns a 101-41 record at Mercyhurst, including a 21-6 mark this season.
This is his first conference honor this year and second in his career.
