2009 ND Catholic Invitational Results
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Junior
Christie Turak broke her own school record again as the Mercyhurst College cross country teams competed at the 2009 Notre Dame Catholic Invitational Friday afternoon in South Bend, Ind.
Turak posted a time of 17:36 to break her previous school record of 17:49 set at the California (Pa.) Invitational back on Sept. 5. The only runner to finish ahead of her was Notre Dame's Lindsay Ferguson who posted a mark of 17:33. Turak now owns the three fastest times in program history with her two runs this year and her first record-breaking result at last year's Catholic Invite (18:11).
Because of her performance, the Laker women were able to keep their score down to a mere 423 points to claim 13th place and finish in front of 18 other teams. On the men's side, Mercyhurst accumulated 528 points to finish 20th out of 32 squads.
Overall, both teams placed three runners each in the top-100 of their respective races. Junior
Cherie Jackson posted a time of 20:10 to claim 70th place while classmate
Jennifer Mieczkowski finished four spots behind her in 74th with a mark of 20:16. Sophomore
Keven Gregg anchored the men's team with his time of 27:27 to claim 70th place, followed by freshman
Ryan Haylett with a 79th-place reading of 27:38. First-year runner
Nicholas Stolar reeled off a time of 27:53 for 90th.
Both teams return to action in two weeks at the Slippery Rock Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 3 in Slippery Rock, Pa.
