ERIE, Pa. -- The No. 1 Mercyhurst College women's varsity eight remained the nation's top-ranked team in this week's Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association/US Rowing poll, this time as the unanimous selection with the Lakers capturing all five votes.
The unanimous honor comes after Mercyhurst dominated Dowling College and Philadelphia University this past Sunday. The varsity eight finished first for the third-straight weekend in the spring as the unit won the event by nearly 10 seconds.
The Lakers will go for their fourth-straight gold-medal finish this Saturday, May 2nd when they travel to race in the Mid-American Collegiate Rowing Association Regatta.
The event is one of the final two for the Lakers during their 2008-09 season as they prepare for a bid to the NCAA II National Championships May 31- June 1. The Lakers already have won national championship crown, winning the 2004 Division II National Championship.
