HOUSTON, Texas -- Senior
Payne Lint ended his Mercyhurst wrestling career in big fashion by posting an eighth-place finish at the 2009 NCAA II Championships to earn his first All-America certificate in three tries.
The 125-pounder fell 14-6 to Curtis Schurkamp of San Fran. St. in his final match as a Laker, moving his season record to 33-17, good for fourth-place on the single-season wins list. Overall, he exits Mercyhurst with the fifth-best win total as he compiled a 92-65 mark in his four years.
He also finishes in the top five of several statistical categories, including owning the top mark for technical falls (13) while ranking third all-time in major decisions (17).
He finished third at this year's Super Region 1 Championship and finished second at this year's National Catholic Invitational while collecting a fourth-place finish at the Keystone Classic and a fifth-place showing at the PSAC Championships.
A three-time national qualifier, Lint accolades include a regional title in 2007 as a sophomore and was awarded the Lakers' Rookie of the Year Award in 2006.
