LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- Mercyhurst College junior Josh Shields has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Co-Wrestler of the Week, as announced today by league officials.

In the first weekly honor of the 2009-10 season, Shields shares the accolade with Edinboro's Jarrod King.

The reigning 165-lb NCAA Division II National Champion continues his winning ways this season, recording a 7-0 record and two tournament titles in his first two appearances.

At the Buffalo Open, Shields went 4-0 and defeated Josh Apor of Maryland by a 3-1 count in the title bout. A week later at the National Catholic Invitational, Shields went 3-0 and easily handled all his opponents as he posted a fall in the championship bout. For his efforts at the NIC, he was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler.

All told, Shields has posted two falls, one tech fall and two major decisions in seven matches this season. The junior now owns a 28-bout unbeaten streak after closing out last year with 21 consecutive wins en route to becoming Mercyhurst's first-ever indvidual national champion a season ago.
